If you are looking for a robotic vacuum cleaner that fits your tight budget perfectly, then consider ECOVACS DEEBOT N79.
This product is one of the least expensive that you can buy without any worry.
Featuring the built-in Wifi, you can control your robot from anywhere using the ECOVACS app or included remote control. However, it lacks the operation via voice control through Amazon Alexa or Google Home.
From my experience, I personally think DEEBOT N79 is great for:
- Working on hardwood and tile floors
- Cleaning thinner carpets
- Homes raising pets
- Saving money
However, you shouldn’t get it if you have deep-pile/shag carpet or live in large open areas. You can download full DEEBOT N79 manual here for complete instructions!

Overview of DEEBOT N79 Troubleshooting
1. How do I reset my DEEBOT?
The reset process is quite simpler than you may think.
In order to reset your DEEBOT, all you need is to press and hold the START/PAUSE button for 3 seconds. Then set the current time. Once the scheduling has set successfully, make sure you hear the *beep* sound 3 times from the device and the indicator light will turn blow after that.
If the scheduling is cancelled, the device will still beep 3 times but the indicator light will go green. Of course you can fix this issue by removing and replacing the DEEBOT’s motherboard.
Here is an introduction to the N79 model:
2. Why my DEEBOT keeps moving in circles?
You find your DEEBOT N79 unit goes around in circles?
Let’s turn it over and check the bottom of the robovac to see whether its anti-drop sensors are covered with dirt or not. If it does have dust, you’re advised to rub the sensors carefully using the multi-function cleaning tool. This item is included in the N79 troubleshooting package!
In case this issue still happens, then probably the robot’s driving wheels are tangled with external matters or the robot cannot spot objects as it should be. Don’t worry as we have solutions to help the issues resolved completely.
- Make use of the multi-function cleaning tool to wipe anti-drop sensors.
- The multi-function cleaning tool can also deface anti-drop sensors; in addition, it’s necessary to remove any debris from driving wheels.

3. Why my DEEBOT goes backwards only?
The possible cause for the DEEBOT going backwards in a straight line might be because its front bumper gets stuck in or is unable to return to the correct position. This is what we call the “bumper exception” error!
Your robot vacuum cleaner may think the walls are closing in on it; that explains why it keeps moving backwards.
In order to help your robovac move back and forth in the correct position again, all you need is to gently pull out the front bumper a quarter inch. If you’ve tried out this tip but the machine still doesn’t work, then quickly contact ECOVACS Customer Support.
For in-depth cleaning and maintenance, you should check this video:
4. Why won’t my DEEBOT find the charging dock?
For DEEBOT N79 series, the cleaning cycle will only stop when the battery runs low. Your robovac then will slow down the operation automatically and make it way to the charging dock for recharging the energy.
The process might take a while as the robotic vacuum sometimes moves in the wrong direction; however, it will end up in the right spot anyway.
If any consumer wants the DEEBOT unit to return to its Home Base earlier, the setting can be done using the remote or app:
- Press the PLAY or PAUSE button
- Press the CHARGE or HOME button then
Once you hit those buttons on the remote, your robotic vacuum cleaner will instantly stop the cleaning process and head back to the charging. Try to place the dock somewhere in a clutter free area, with at least 2 feet of clear space on both sides.
Though not many people like this idea, it’s precise to arrange the charging station to the center of the living room. According to ECOVACS makers, putting the charger in the middle of your lounge helps to find out ideal locations for its charging process.
The charging station sometimes cannot send out fast and strong power radio signal to your DEEBOT. Hence, just a slight location move of the charger will make it easier for the robot to find its way home.
5. Why is the auto button red?
Some owning N79 robotic vacuums complain that they’re having the red auto light error with the unit.
After several months offering such great service, the robovac suddenly stops working out of the blue as soon as starting a cleaning cycle. It moves around for less than 5 minutes and then gives off the problem.
How to fix this?
Initially, we’ve done research showing the cause might lie in the battery; therefore, we focused on arranging charging dock positions and cleaning the charge contacts. But it seemed like we were wrong as the same issue still transpires. A couple of days later, we thought about the large amount of dirt accumulation in the beater brush.
Simple remove 4 tiny Phillips screws and a flathead screw driver to detach the front wheels. Clean the brush thoroughly and we were kind of surprised because the N79 again performs as a brand-new machine.
In case your robot flashes red and emits alarm beeps:

6. How do I connect to DEEBOT wifi?
Just got a new DEEBOT for your home?
Don’t know what to do as your DEEBOT N79 wifi won’t connect?
A very common problem that most DEEBOT consumers often encounter is – they find it frustrated to connect to the built-in wifi.
Let me remind you that your house is running on a 5GHz network. Oftentimes you have a 2.4GHz band and a 5GHz band to choose from. Therefore, it’s significant to connect to the 2.4GHz bandwidth router if you want to link your robotic cleaner to the wifi.
Create the connection between the app and the robot is actually quite easy.
- Initially, ensure your home wifi is set down to the 2.4GHz band.
- All ECOVACS products primarily work on 2.4GHz bands and most routers are also dual-banded, so it’s not a big matter as the system will automatically switch this; nevertheless, there are some routers require you to do the setup manually.
- Follow the steps of how to do this either from the ECOVACS DEEBOT N79 manual or find it online.
- Immediately turn on your robot once you take it out of the box.
- Start the app on your smartphone and approach your DEEBOT robot as close as possible.
- Press and hold the AUTO button for 3 seconds until you hear a sound from it.
- Once you do that, let’s see if the wifi light illuminates on the device or not. If yes, then just access to the app.
- Read the instructions on the app to find out the steps of how to connect to your DEEBOT. The connection time takes less than one minute.
Have a look at the upgraded version – N79S – with a click!
Please keep in mind that you have to stay close to the robot as this helps fasten the connection. Check out this video to know how to connect your DEEBOT to the ECOVACS app quickly:
7. How long does the DEEBOT battery last?
Currently, most DEEBOT models use the 3000mAh batter for operation. Its maximum running time is estimated 90 minutes for a complete cleaning cycle. Nevertheless, when the setting is max in every feature and function, then your robot will run out of energy after 45 minutes.
Summary
When purchasing DEEBOT N79, you also receive the manual in which has a handy maintenance guide.
After each time cleaning your device, you’re advised to empty the dustbin and then wash it under running water. Additionally, you should take out the sponge and all high-efficiency filters in order to remove stuck debris.
Rinse only the sponge filter, not the high-efficiency filter.
For the side brushes, you need to clean them once every two weeks and replace them every 3 to 6 months according to the manual. But, the maintenance depends mainly on how often you use the vacuum as well as on usage.
Don’t forget to change the filters every 4 to 6 months.
Also, once a week, the device’s sensors need to be clean with a soft dry cloth.
This ECOVACS DEEBOT robot vacuum can be used without wifi. Therefore, you can choose to skip the setup step with wifi connection. This means you are unable to utilize the app, obviously.
Refer to the manual or call customer support whenever you get stuck with ECOVACS DEEBOT N79.

I really like this machine, however it stopped in the middle of cleaning. I did the 3 second reset suggestion, but it will not power on, at the charging station it lights up blue, but the Auto power button is flashing. WiFi is connected, batter sensor says charged, however when I pull it off the charging station all light indicators go off. What else can I try?
Tara says
I also have this problem. Were you able to find a solution?
Jaskaran Curtis says
Dear Maries,
Possible Cause: DEEBOT is tangled with something on the floor (electrical cords, drooping curtains, area rug fringe etc.). While the Deebot is pretty good at getting our jams – some common household items can trip it up.
Solution: DEEBOT will try various ways to get itself out of trouble. If it is unsuccessful, manually remove the obstacles and restart.
Sincere!
Tracey Zackery says
I’ve only had my deebot a little over a year and now it won’t charge. I replaced the battery but it still won’t work. Unfortunately my warranty is over and my receipt sadly found its way to the trash along with the box. Is there something I can do to troubleshoot it and get it back working?
Jaskaran Curtis says
Dear Tracey,
Possible Cause: The Bottom Power Switch on the bottom of DEEBOT 83 is not turned ON.
Solution: Turn the Bottom Power Switch to the ON position. The “|” is ON, the “O” is OFF
Possible Cause: DEEBOT 83 has not made a connection with the Charging Dock.
Solution: Be sure that the DEEBOT 83 has made a connection with the charging dock pins. You may move the robot manually to make the connection if necessary.
Possible Cause: Charging Dock is unplugged while robot’s Bottom Power Switch is ON, which causes battery consumption.
Solution: Plug in the Charging Dock and ensure the robot’s Bottom Power Switch is turned ON. Keep DEEBOT 83 on the Charging Dock to make sure it has a full battery to work at any time.
Possible Cause: The battery is completely discharged.
Solution: Re-activate the battery. Place DEEBOT 83 on the Charging Dock by hand, remove after charging for 3 minutes, repeat 3 times; then charge normally.

My Deebot N79 approaches the charging station but then bounces back over and over. I have to place it manually.
Lillian Muriel Dalton says
My Deebot N79 stalled it’s self cleaning during the night. I rescued it next morning, It would not run, I put it on the charger for a while it showed it was charged. I set it to clean, everything came on except the the long roller brush. It ran for about 3 minutes beeped 4 times and quit.I have followed directions and taken apart enough to remove the brush and clean everything. I checked the movement of the brush as suggested, it does not turn. Is there anything else to do or have I burned up the motor?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Jaskaran Curtis says
Hi,
If the device does not show signs of power, check the bottom of the Deebot. Locate the power switch and set to the the ON position. If the power switch is already in the ON position change the switch to the OFF position and manually dock it to the charging station. After three hours attempt to turn on again.
Run the Demo on the robot and see if you hear the brush motor turning at the appropriate time. If the motor does not power up then it might be the module failed (although it could also be a problem in the electronics connected to it). If the motor does run and the brush doesn’t spin, then inspect the yellow hub of the brush for cracks, or excessive wear in the hole. Make sure when you put the brush back onto the shaft that you can spin the shaft manually by spinning the brush.
Thanks

My DeeBot N79S constantly stops during cleaning. It gives a false main brush malfunction. I own three main brushes, and tried them all, the problem remains.
Jaskaran Curtis says
Hi,
The problem was not in the brush roller, it was the front guidance roller which, even though behind the ball is a small area but it was full of bits of little stuff. I used a pair of vise grips and pulled the roller out with its casing and under the roller was the built up dirt & debris. Simple fix but all the posts led me to believe it was the brush roller not the guidance roller in the very front.

I was given a DEEBOT N79SE FOR Christmas! I can’t find anything in the manual that tells me what the 6 buttons on the bottom of the remote are for (I did figure out the clock). I have pushed them to try & figure it out but now a circle is on the screen with lines up & down thru it (last button to the right on first row) & I don’t know what that’s going to direct it to do? Guidance would be appreciated – thank you in advance!

My deebot has a anti drop malfunction. It comes off the charger and immediately stops beeping 5 times. I’ve cleaned it multiple times but still not working. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Jaskaran Curtis says
Hi Kevin,
1. The Anti-Drop Sensors on the bottom of the DEEBOT may be covered with dust. Wipe the Anti-Drop Sensors with the brush on the left side of the Multi-Function Cleaning Tool to maintain their effectiveness.
2. The Driving Wheels may be tangled with hair or debris. Use the Multi-Function Cleaning Tool to cut off and remove any hair/debris tangled around the Driving Wheels.
If the problem is still there, please contact Customer Service.

My deebot won’t connect to WiFi despite the network is not 5G and instructions are followed, can you advise?
Jaskaran Curtis says
Hi Phoebe,
Activate the robot’s Wi-Fi
Press the RESET button for 1 second and then release. Make sure you’ve heard a beep or the prompt ‘Entering network setup mode’. After activating the robot’s Wi-Fi, the Wi-Fi indicator light starts blinking.
Connect the robot to home Wi-Fi
Meanwhile, the network information and password will be sent to the robot. The robot will try to connect to the home Wi-Fi.
iOS: Open the settings on the mobile device and select the Wi-Fi network starting with ‘ECOVACS’, then return to the App and wait for the network setup to complete.
Android: When activated, the robot will automatically start network configuration and connect to the mobile device. If the connection fails, you will need to open the settings on the mobile device and select the Wi-Fi manually. Select the network starting with “ECOVACS”, then return to the App and wait for the network setup to complete.
More Tips:
1. Make sure the connected home Wi-Fi network is a 2.4G or 2.4/5G mixed network.
2. Before configuring the network, ensure that the robot is fully charged. If not, place the robot on the Charging Dock for charging. You may configure the network while charging the robot.
3.The Wi-Fi indicator light under the robot cover (on the upper right of the robot power switch) is blinking.
4. Make sure that the power switch is turned on and startup of the robot is complete (there will be a startup ingle during startup, which takes about 20 s) before configuring.
5. Before or during the network setup, make sure to press the network setup button (the button is on the right side of the robot power switch and is a small dot and should be pressed for 1 second). You will hear a voice prompt.

Hi I have a question. I purchased a used ecovac n79, woth adaptor cord but no dock or remote. Is the dock the only way to charge this? And is the remote the only way to connect to wifi?
Jaskaran Curtis says
Hi K,
You can connect your Ecovac to Wifi using your smartphone, just download the app and set up .. then you can control the robot vacuum easily without using the remote.
But, you have to buy the dock to charge the unit.
Sincere
Richard Loke says
It’s not true remote is not needed to set up wifi. The remote must be used to set up wifi. So no remote means cannot use App. This is a bad design lapse.

How to fix my deboot n79 it always cleans at 7pm but I do not have it scheduled to clean. I have already done the pause and start button for 3 seconds.
Thanks
Lesa
Jaskaran Curtis says
Hi Lesa,
Please try the following steps:
1. Reset it – turn the side power switch to Off (“”o”” position) then 10 sec later to On (“”I”” position) again. Press and hold the auto button until you hear the beeping sounds-while it’s on the charging dock. Doing so will erase the settings from the robot.
2. Remove the battery from the remote control and put it back in again. Doing so will erase the settings from the remote.
3. If you want to set a cleaning schedule, set the current time on remote (clock button), then set the scheduled time (bell button), press Start/Pause button when you finish and DEEBOT should beep to confirm.
Sincere
Beth Williams says
Hello- I have lost the remove of my N79 and am trying to reconfigure the Wi-Fi. I can’t find any button of how to make it go into the Wi-Fi searching mode. Is there a way around using the remote?
Jaskaran Curtis says
Hi Beth,
or some reason the WiFi network is not activated correctly when pressing the WiFi setup button the remote, it only seems to activate around 45 seconds after the second time you press it. Once I had figured this out I tried multiple different devices to complete setup. All I can say is use an old device or in my case a kindle fire 7. I had to side load the Ecovac APK but I got it to work finally! Ok so the steps…
Turn DEEBOT off.
Open app on Android device and accept any prompts.
Select DEEBOT N79 and accept WiFi prompt Follow app instructions.
Once you see connecting to DEEBOT wait 30seconds and hold the WiFi setup button on the remote for 3 seconds again!
You will see a notification in app stating it cannot connect, switching to manual mode (my app bugged out and did not show me the manual connection screen but I can assure it is running that portion at this stage)
At this point head to your WiFi connections.
The DEEBOT_**** WiFi should be broadcasting.
If not… start the process again or wait a further 20 seconds till you see the WiFi SSID.
Manually connect to the DEEBOT WiFi.
Switch back to the app and leave it.
You will eventually see setup complete.
You must keep the screen awake at all times. If it falls a sleep during setup ensure it is kept awake by removing it from its dock and re seating it.
This did not work first time at all so prepare for 20 minutes of faff! All I can say now is that Bob is fully integrated into Home Assistant how he should be 🙂
